Kristin Vaage is an emerging Norwegian contemporary expressionist painter.
Kristin spent her childhood moving within Norway, then later spent much of her adult life living around the world. She embarked on her artistic journey relatively late in life, taking art lessons in Germany, Russia, and Texas. Collecting endless visual and cultural impressions along the way, she has come to appreciate the significant role this rather restless life, together with a successful commercial career, has played in shaping her path as a fine artist.

An intuitive painter, her paintings are the products of an intense process, utilising elements such as form, space, and colour, combined with acrylic layering techniques and mark-making to discover the right expression. These processes express her directions as a figurative artist and an abstract artist.

This may happen quite early in the process, or it could take a long time; either way, it is about persisting and knowing that it is not always about telling the whole story – sometimes it is about what is left out. While we might sometimes see Kristin's paintings as figurative, she definitely has a fascination with the abstract mystery.

Her portraits, on the other hand, are of a more classic type, painted in oil using a limited palette and classic painting techniques. She is determined to capture not only a likeness, but also the subject's spirit and personality.

Shunning the confinement of adhering to a single style, she wishes to pursue both artistic pathways. Seemingly diametrically different, both represent creative outlets that Kristin enhances and would not want to be without.
